Psynara Retreats
Each retreat is shaped entirely around the person attending it. Extraordinary locations. A process built for where you are right now.
How Our Retreats Work
Every retreat at Psynara begins the same way, with a deep conversation. We take the time to understand who you are, what you are carrying, and what you genuinely need. From there, your retreat is built around you, at the pace of real healing rather than the pace of a fixed schedule.

The Four Pathways
Each pathway reflects a different kind of need. Your retreat will be shaped around your unique story, your goals, and the depth of work you are ready to do.
For those carrying wounds that have never fully been given space to heal. This retreat creates the conditions for deep, safe processing, guided by a clinical psychologist trained in trauma-focused therapies, and held within an environment designed to support genuine release and recovery.
EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR is one of the most well-evidenced treatments for trauma available. Through guided bilateral stimulation, it helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. In this retreat, EMDR is used to gently access and resolve traumatic material that may have felt too difficult to approach through talk therapy alone, allowing genuine healing rather than simply managing symptoms.
Somatic Therapy
Trauma lives in the body as much as the mind. Somatic therapy works with physical sensations, breath, and movement to release the physiological imprints of traumatic experience. In the trauma healing retreat, somatic approaches help regulate the nervous system, restore a sense of safety in the body, and support the kind of deep release that cognitive approaches alone cannot always reach.
Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy explores the deep-rooted emotional patterns and beliefs formed in early life that continue to shape our experience in the present. For trauma survivors, these schemas often include feelings of abandonment, mistrust, or shame. This retreat uses schema work to identify these patterns, understand their origins, and begin to reshape the relationship you have with yourself at the most fundamental level.
Breathwork
Conscious breathwork is a powerful tool for regulating the nervous system and accessing emotional states that are difficult to reach through conversation alone. In the trauma healing retreat, breathwork sessions are used to support grounding, reduce hyperarousal, and facilitate the kind of deep inner stillness that creates the conditions for lasting healing.
Relationships carry the weight of everything we bring to them. This retreat is for couples who want to do something real, to understand each other more deeply, to repair what has frayed, or to build a stronger foundation together. Led by a psychologist specialising in relational therapy, this is not a holiday with therapy added. It is a genuinely transformative process, held in extraordinary surroundings.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy
Developed from decades of research into what makes relationships succeed or fail, the Gottman Method gives couples a precise, evidence-based framework for understanding their patterns of interaction. In the couples reconnection retreat, Gottman tools help identify the communication dynamics that are damaging the relationship and replace them with new ways of listening, responding, and building what Gottman calls "the Sound Relationship House" — a foundation of trust, commitment, and genuine friendship.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT works at the level of attachment — the deep emotional bonds that underpin every close relationship. When couples feel emotionally disconnected or trapped in cycles of conflict and withdrawal, EFT helps them understand the underlying fears and needs driving those patterns. In this retreat, EFT creates space for partners to reach each other differently, moving from conflict and distance towards genuine emotional closeness and secure connection.
Discernment Therapy
Discernment Therapy is designed for couples where one or both partners are uncertain whether they want to continue the relationship. Rather than assuming the goal is to stay together, it creates a structured space to clarify the path forward with honesty and care. In this retreat, discernment work allows both partners to understand their own contribution to the relationship's difficulties, and to make a decision about the future from a place of genuine clarity rather than reactivity or fear.
Relational Therapy
Relational therapy places the relationship itself at the centre of the healing process. Rather than focusing solely on individual psychology, it explores how two people co-create their dynamic — and how that dynamic can shift. In the couples retreat, relational approaches help partners see each other more clearly, understand how their individual histories shape the way they relate, and begin to build something more honest and sustainable together.
Schema Therapy
We all bring our early emotional patterns into our closest relationships. Schema Therapy helps each partner identify the deep-seated beliefs and coping strategies formed in childhood that are playing out in the relationship today. In the couples retreat, schema work is used to bring compassion and understanding to moments of conflict, helping both partners see that the behaviour that hurts them most in each other is often rooted in pain rather than intention.
EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR is not only for individual trauma — it can also be used in the couples context to process specific relational wounds, such as infidelity, significant betrayal, or painful moments that have become stuck in the relationship's history. In this retreat, EMDR may be offered individually or within the couples session to help both partners process experiences that continue to create distance or reactivity between them.
Somatic Work
Our bodies tell the story of our relationships in ways words often cannot. Somatic approaches in the couples retreat help partners become more attuned to their own and each other's physical and emotional states, supporting the development of co-regulation and felt safety in each other's presence. For couples whose connection has become strained or distant, somatic work can begin to rebuild the sense of being truly at ease with the person you love.
Addiction is rarely just about the substance or the behaviour. It is almost always about the pain underneath it. This retreat offers a compassionate, clinically rigorous space to explore what drives compulsive patterns, and to begin building a life where those patterns are no longer necessary. Entirely private and led with the care this work demands.
Addiction Therapies
The addiction recovery retreat draws on a range of clinically proven approaches including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for addiction, and relapse prevention work. These are not generic programmes — they are applied specifically to your pattern of use, your triggers, and your underlying emotional landscape. The retreat creates the time and safety to explore what the addiction has been doing for you, and to begin building the internal resources to meet those needs differently.
Schema Therapy
Addiction and deep emotional pain almost always go hand in hand. Schema Therapy helps identify the early maladaptive patterns — of abandonment, shame, unrelenting standards, or emotional deprivation — that compulsive behaviours have been used to manage or escape. In this retreat, schema work creates a compassionate, non-judgmental space to understand the emotional roots of your addiction and begin addressing those patterns at their source.
EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
Many people struggling with addiction carry significant trauma that has never been fully processed. EMDR in the addiction recovery retreat is used to target the traumatic memories, emotional triggers, and conditioned responses that fuel compulsive behaviour. By reducing the emotional charge of those underlying experiences, EMDR helps remove some of the most powerful drivers of the addiction cycle.
Breathwork
The addicted nervous system is often one that has learned to seek external regulation — through substances, behaviours, or stimulation. Breathwork in the addiction retreat offers a powerful alternative: a direct route to self-regulation, calm, and presence that comes entirely from within. These techniques build the capacity to tolerate discomfort and move through cravings without acting on them, while also providing genuine relief from anxiety and stress.
Sometimes what we need most is simply to stop. To put down the screen, the notifications, the endless demands, and remember what it feels like to be present. This retreat offers a guided disconnection from the digital world, combined with psychological tools to understand your relationship with technology and reclaim a calmer, more intentional way of living.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-based approaches help rebuild the capacity to be present — something that chronic digital overload actively erodes. In the Unplug and Reset retreat, mindfulness is not about achieving a state of bliss. It is about learning to be with your experience, moment to moment, without the compulsion to reach for stimulation or distraction. These practices are woven throughout the retreat to help you reconnect with a quieter, more grounded version of yourself.
Breathwork
In a state of chronic overstimulation, the breath is often shallow, tight, and reactive. Breathwork in the Unplug retreat is used to actively shift the nervous system out of its hyperactivated state and into genuine rest. Sessions range from calming, restorative practices to more dynamic techniques that release accumulated tension and help you arrive in your body in a way that hours of scrolling makes almost impossible.
Somatic Work
Digital life is profoundly disembodied — we spend hours in our heads and screens with little awareness of our physical experience. Somatic work in the Unplug and Reset retreat helps you come back into your body: to feel where stress is held, to notice sensation, and to begin moving and inhabiting yourself in a way that restores a sense of aliveness and ease. This is not exercise. It is a return to embodied awareness.
Nature Immersion
There is substantial and growing evidence for the restorative power of time in natural environments on the overstimulated mind. The Unplug and Reset retreat is set in a location chosen specifically for the quality of its natural surroundings. Time spent in nature — walking, sitting, simply being — forms a core part of the retreat experience. It is not incidental. It is therapeutic. The natural world resets what screens have disrupted.
